The signing of order was made last month by President Joe Biden, which aimed to produce half of all new passenger cars sold in 2030 at zero emissions.
The Honda Prologue is being developed in partnership with General Motors and based on the modular platform and battery technology, Detroit automaker’s Ultium platform. In addition, Honda and GM are co-developing an electric Acura SUV brand.
The Prologue will, however, not at least immediately be available nationwide.
Rather, Honda will also adopt a conservative strategy, focusing initially on EV-friendly states such as California, Texas, and Florida and then increasing their sales to additional states with growing infrastructure and customer demand.
The Prologue and the Acura SUV – both for sale in 2024 – are to be assembled by GM, but Honda did not specify which factory will construct the Acura cars, name, or volume targets.
Honda and GM also appeared to suggest in the joint declaration initially confirmed in April 2020 that GM’s Super Cruise assisted driving technology may have been available in the Honda prologue. This will probably be the first time that Super Cruise is provided by a non-GM brand vehicle.
Following GM-constructed models, Honda is launching a series of electric cars by 2030 based on the e-Architecture, a Honda-based new EV platform, and is assembling electric vehicles at Honda North American factories.
American Honda Executive Vice President Dave Gardner indicated that the Prologue’s sales will be first in California, subsequently in other areas like Texas and Florida. It intends to include additional US models in the hybrid-electric systems.
“Our plan is focused on the introduction of a larger percentage of hybrids in core models in the near future, making a determined effort to achieve higher volume leading to the release of our Honda Prologue,” Gardner stated.
Honda’s first Prologue Electric SUV was revealed in June. The launch is part of Honda’s aim to transition to North America’s zero-emission vehicles by 2040. “Our commitment to zero-emissions has begun,” stated Dave Gardner, Executive Vice President, American Honda.
Honda’s first Prologue electric SUV
The first SUV Prologue of the Honda will arrive in 2024 and is being developed with General Motors in cooperation. The battery system of General Motors will help the company. This vehicle is likewise built on the battery platform of GM. There was still nothing divulged regarding the electric SUV by the organization. Nevertheless, Honda has stated that it plans to introduce an electric SUV in the premium Acura portfolio in 2024.
Honda has not yet disclosed exactly what the prologue would take in size or shape, but we expect it to be a compact or medium-sized SUV. The powertrain and the platform will consist of GM components and the Vice-Chairman of Honda Dave Gardner has indicated that its “top half” – its body design – and interiors will be the major differentiating factors between the Prologue and GM EVs.
The company states that it picked the Prologue name to show that it’s the first of many electric vehicles to be built. Honda stated it intends to make up 40% of its vehicle sales by 2030 by EVs and fuel cells, 80% by 2035, and 100% by 2040.
The CR electric dirt bike and the Benly e electric delivery scooter were two of the company’s other prototypes that were revealed. There have been reports of Benly e electric scooter testing at the ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) facility in Pune. It debuted at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.
It also said that it will import a two-wheeler electric from China to test in India, and the Honda Benly e may be the one we can expect. Honda Mobile Power Pack, a swappable battery system, is said to be in testing at the moment. The Benly Electric has the PCX Electric maxi scooter batteries (a kind of delivery scooter).
