Carzonrent India P Limited, India’s first electric vehicle mobility as a service brand Plug Mobility, has teamed up with Fortum Charge & Drive India Pvt. Ltd, an EV charging infrastructure service provider, to develop charging infrastructure for Carzonrent’s 19,000 vehicles. Read on to learn more about Fortum C&D and Carzonrent, who are working together to deploy charging stations across India.

According to the agreement, Fortum C&D will deploy 3,200 charging outlets for the fleet in 79 cities and towns across India over the next five years. A total of $50 million will be spent on the installation of these charging stations. These charging stations will be used by the recently announced EV fleet “Plug” and will also be available to the general public.

“Carzonrent will provide a chauffeur-driven EV fleet through its initiative Plug for different ground mobility needs,” said Rajiv Kumar Vij, managing director of Carzonrent India. “Our goal is to save 4 lac (4,00,000 ton) tons of carbon dioxide emissions in the next five years by introducing 19000 EVs across India to service corporate business travel and employee transportation, guest and crew/staff movement requirement for Hospitality and Aviation sector, official travel requirement of Central and State Government and PSU entities, Airport Taxi services, and SME clients.  The company’s collaboration with Fortum will help us achieve this.”

Carzonrent plans to generate $350 million in revenue from its electric vehicle program over the next five years. It would also assist its fleet partners in obtaining bank financing for vehicles.

“We are pleased to partner with Carzonrent,” stated Sanjay Aggarwal, president of Fortum India. “Fortum has been working hard to make the benefits of electric mobility more available to drivers on a daily basis in order to encourage EV adoption, whether for personal or business use. Electric vehicle manufacturing and use are increasing as a result of government subsidies, customer affordability, and incentives.”
